Brian Lapping Associates, the London-based producers of a documentary on Yugoslavia, won the highest honor Thursday at the 51st annual Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards for broadcast journalism. The five-part “Yugoslavia: Death of a Nation” was televised on The Discovery Channel and BBC, the first time a Gold Baton Award has gone to a production on cable. The jury awarded 12 Silver Batons for excellence in TV and radio journalism for 1995-96 at a ceremony at Columbia University. Among the network TV winners were CBS News’ “60 Minutes” for “Too Good to be True” about a private school in Chicago.
