Kayaker Dave Kehnast helped Chicago firefighters rescue a dog that had been running along the ice far into Lake Michigan around 7100 N. Sheridan Road. Kehnast said he was at home when his neighbor alerted him to the dog rescue in progress. "I grabbed the kayak and pushed off shore and went and got him," Kehnast said afterward. "I don't think he realized he was in danger. It was a game to him." The dog reached land safely and was last seen running south on Sheridan Road.
