McDonald’s has rolled out two new sizes of its classic Big Mac sandwich — the Grand Mac and Mac Jr. — nationwide.

The world’s largest burger chain tested the new versions of the 50-year-old double-decker sandwich in Columbus, Ohio, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area before launching the sandwiches in all of its more than 14,000 U.S. restaurants. The sandwiches have the same sesame seed bun and toppings of the traditional — lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions and “special” sauce — but the Mac Jr. has less beef and no middle bread layer, while the Grand Mac has more beef.

McDonald’s is two years into an effort to streamline its menu to cut costs and speed service while allowing it to better compete with “better burger” rivals like Five Guys, M Burger and Shake Shack. The new sizes of Big Macs are meant to spur sales without complicating work in the kitchen, especially now that all U.S. restaurants are serving breakfast all day.

Big Macs made with chicken instead of beef are available in some countries outside the U.S.

The creator of the Big Mac, a McDonald’s franchisee in Pennsylvania, died last year at age 98.
