The son of a DuPage County couple has been charged with another man in an alleged murder-for-hire attack early Sunday against the couple in their home, DuPage County sheriff’s police said Monday.

The couple received injuries described as serious after they were allegedly attacked by a man with a hammer about 2:50 a.m. Sunday in their home in an unincorporated area near Glen Ellyn, police said.

When police arrived at the residence on Park Boulevard, they received a description of the attacker and, based on that information, arrested a man a short time later at a nearby business, according to authorities. Police identified him as Michael Targo, 18, of Glendale Heights.

Investigators say they learned that Targo was part of a murder-for-hire plot allegedly instigated by the couple’s son, Joshua Miceli, 23, also of an unincorporated area near Glen Ellyn. Miceli allegedly implicated himself in the scheme during an interview with police, authorities said.

Miceli was allegedly going to pay Targo after Targo killed Miceli’s parents, police said.

Targo and Miceli have each been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and Miceli is facing two counts of solicitation of murder, authorities said. Both men are being held without bail after an appearance Monday in bond court, according to police.

In a news release, Undersheriff Frank Bibbiano credited sheriff’s police for quickly making the arrests.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this heinous crime, and we hope for their speedy recovery,” he said.
