While the investigation continued Tuesday, Clarendon Hills police said alcohol may have been involved in an Aug. 15 one-car crash that resulted in the death of a 46-year-old Westmont woman.

Clarendon Hills police and fire departments were dispatched to southbound Route 83 at the bridge over Burlington Avenue at 12:22 p.m. Aug. 15 for a single vehicle rollover crash.

The driver of the black 2002 Volvo S60, Cynthia Fleck, 46, of Westmont, had to be extricated from the vehicle. There were no passengers.

Police said statements from witnesses indicated that Fleck made a rapid lane change.

“They said she went around from the left lane to the right lane in a reckless manner,” Police Chief Boyd Farmer said, noting paramedics worked on Fleck at the scene before taking her to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

“They took here there because they have a level one trauma center,” Farmer said.

Fleck was later pronounced dead at Good Samaritan, he said.

“The hospital said he blood-alcohol content indicated that probably was a factor in this matter,” Farmer said.

He said the Fiat Accident Reconstruction Team, which has special training in accident reconstruction, was called to the scene and is involved in the investigation.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information to call officer James Shaw at 630-286-5464.
