Taco Bell’s not very good at keeping a secret.

First, the chain announced it will unveil a new menu item during a 30-second Super Bowl commercial on Sunday. Then, it announced customers could preorder the “mystery” item to pick up on Saturday, a day before the Super Bowl. Then, I announced to all of my friends that I would be spending my Saturday afternoon at Taco Bell. (No one wanted to come.)

Then, I got this email:

Way to kill the anticipation, Taco Bell auto-email. Am I the only one trying in this relationship?

The quesalupa is an item the chain test-marketed in Ohio last year. Picture a quesadilla folded like a taco and filled with the usual taco fixings: ground beef, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and sour cream.

Even with the surprise ruined, I got to Taco Bell at 2 p.m. sharp and brandished my mobile app pre-order, good from 2 to 4 p.m. only. To make going to Taco Bell in the middle of the day even more depressing, I made sure to go to the Wrigleyville location.

Verdict: Possibly my new go-to item. The order came out warm, the quesadilla-as-shell was stuffed with mild, surprisingly good cheese, the ground beef was juicy and the sour-cream-to-beef ratio was spot-on. This is all relative, of course; the quesalupa is not going to convert anyone who is grossed out by fast food, but I think that goes without saying.

It was good enough that I ate two.

The quesalupa ($2.99) will be on the menu at Taco Bells nationwide starting Monday.
