“American Idol,” the iconic reality television program that gave us Sanjaya Malakar and Taylor “Soul Patrol” Hicks, begins its 15th and final season this Wednesday on FOX. While the longstanding singing competition (which, yes, also led to stardom for Carrie Underwood and non-winner Jennifer Hudson and many more) is sure to bring out a lot of alums from its run (hint: Sanjaya), “Idol” has some other curveballs in store for this season: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.
In exclusive footage obtained by E!, the clip shows West pretending to audition with his hit song “Gold Digger.” He performs a cappella in front of judges Harry Connick Jr., Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez, who he famously name drops in the tune. It’s a solid-enough audition for West to make it to the next round, which might not have happened had he played “Facts.” Watch below.
