Julie C. Markley, nee Sweeney, age 88, of Chicago, born in Bloomington, IL, dear daughter of the late Edmund and the late Myrtle, nee Roberts Sweeney; beloved wife of the late Erwin; dear mother of Mary (Frank) Moriarty of Logansport, IN, Louise of Chicago, Kathryn (Max) Scruggs of Arlington, VA, and Larry (Stephanie) of Duluth, MN; loving grandmother of Sharon (Tim Doran) Moriarty, Kathleen Moriarty, Dan (Martha) Moriarty, Michael (Catherine) Scruggs, Jane Scruggs, Clare Markley and Alex Markley; loved great-grandmother of Becca and Katie Scruggs and Brianna Doran; cherished aunt of 20 nieces and nephews; fond sister-in-law of Helen Murkowski, Helen Sweeney, Marvella Sweeney and Catherine Sweeney; preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. Julie was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Bloomington, IL. She worked for the McLean County Poor Relief Board during the Depression, the Internal Revenue Service in its early days in Washington, DC, the Railroad Retirement Board and the Harris Bank of Chicago. Julie was a parishioner of Our Lady of Victory for 64 years. She was a 50-year plus member of the Parish Club, the Sodality and the Daughters of Isabella. She deeply treasured her Catholic faith, her family and her Irish heritage. Visitation at John V. May Funeral Home, Tuesday, July 10, from 2 until 9 p.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Victory, 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11. Burial at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
